Line protection MCCB, 160 A frame, TM240 release
The Siemens 3VA1116-3EF32-0AD0 is a SENTRON 3VA molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection duty — 160 A continuous current on a 3-pole frame, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. That TM240 designation means the thermal element is fixed at 160 A (the frame rating) and the magnetic short-circuit pickup is adjustable, giving you a single device that handles both overload and short-circuit protection in a distribution panel or motor control center. Breaking capacity runs 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 10.5 kA at 690 V — so at common 400 V-class industrial voltages it clears fault currents well above what most downstream panelboards will see, giving you selectivity headroom without stepping up to a larger frame. The 3VA1116-3EF32-0AD0 carries three auxiliary switches (HQ type) built in, which is a useful feature for status feedback to a PLC or for interlocking — no separate aux block to order and snap on.
Thermal derating and panel fit
This MCCB holds its full 160 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs above 50 °C, factor that in — the breaker won't trip early, but you lose about 10% of the continuous rating by 70 °C. Dimensions are 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures without surprises. IP40 on the front is typical for a distribution panel interior; no special gasketing needed for dry indoor locations.
