Integrator's spec recap
The Siemens 3VA1116-3EF36-0HC0 is a SENTRON 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 160 A continuous at 40 °C, with a 75.6 kA interrupting capacity at 240 VAC. It is designed for line protection and includes a shunt trip (STL) release and two auxiliary switches (HQ). The insulation voltage is rated 800 V, so it handles 480/600 V class panels without derating the dielectric.
What the ratings mean for fit
The 160 A rating holds across 40–50 °C ambient, then derates to 150 A at 70 °C — useful if the breaker sits near other heat sources in a crowded enclosure. The 75.6 kA at 240 V is the peak short-circuit current it can safely interrupt; at 415 V that drops to 52.5 kA, and at 690 V to 11.9 kA. For a 480 V panel, the 32 kA at 440 V is the closest published figure — plan for a lower available fault current or step up to a higher-rated frame. The shunt trip (STL) allows remote tripping from an E-stop or PLC output, and the two auxiliary switches (HQ) provide status feedback for the control system.
Panel integration
Dimensions are 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — fits a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint on a DIN rail or panel-mount base. The 76.2 mm width (3 inches) matches the typical SENTRON 3VA frame spacing, so it drops into an existing 3VA panel layout without re-drilling. Maximum power loss is 38 W; account for that heat in the enclosure thermal calculation.
