Rated current and interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-3GD42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 160 A continuous at 40 °C, with the TM210 thermal-magnetic release providing line protection. The interrupting capacity is 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V — the 690 V figure is the same as the 500 V rating, so the breaker's arc chamber is optimized for the lower-voltage high-fault regime. The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. That 150 A floor at 70 °C means a panel running at elevated ambient still carries a full 150 A without nuisance tripping.
Voltage ratings and insulation coordination
Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, and the maximum rated operational voltage Ue for DC circuits is 600 V. The 100% N-conductor protection design means the neutral pole is fully rated — no derating needed for the fourth pole on a 4-wire system. The front face carries IP40 protection, sufficient for general panel installation where tools and fingers are the main concern.
Physical footprint and panel fit
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 101.6 mm width, and 70 mm depth. The 70 mm depth is shallow enough that it clears most standard 200 mm deep enclosures with room for rear busbars or wiring troughs. The 101.6 mm width (4 inches) is a standard MCCB pole pitch for 4-pole breakers — it fits existing SENTRON mounting feet and busbar adapters without panel modification.
Accessories and options
The product version supports an optional motor drive (Product Extension / Optional / Motor Drive: Yes), allowing remote electrical closing and opening. Communication function is not built in — this is a standalone thermal-magnetic breaker, not a communicating unit. Maximum power loss is 38 W, which should be factored into enclosure thermal calculations if the breaker is continuously loaded near its 160 A rating.
