The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-4ED22-0AA0 is a 2-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current across the ambient range up to 50 °C, with a slight derating to 150 A at 70 °C. It is designed for line protection and carries a TM210 thermal-magnetic release. The interrupting capacity is 121 kA at 240 V AC and 75.6 kA at 415 V AC — figures that govern fault-clearing capability in low-voltage distribution panels.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
At 240 V AC the breaker clears 121 kA; at 415 V AC it clears 75.6 kA. These are the symmetrical short-circuit current ratings — the values that determine whether the breaker coordinates with downstream devices and withstands a fault without upstream interruption. For a 415 V panel feeding motor control centers or branch feeders, the 75.6 kA SCCR gives headroom for most industrial transformer ratings up to about 2500 kVA.
Thermal derating and continuous current
The 160 A rating holds up to 50 °C ambient. Above that, the continuous current derates linearly: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. For a panel with high internal temperature rise — say, a sealed enclosure near a furnace or in a Saudi summer — the 70 °C figure of 150 A is the one to design to, not the 160 A nameplate.
Dimensions and panel fit
The breaker occupies 50.8 mm width (2 inches), 130 mm height (5.12 inches), and 70 mm depth (2.76 inches). The 2-pole width is standard for a 160 A frame — it fits a 2-module DIN cutout or a dedicated MCCB mounting plate. The IP40 front protection means it is suitable for dry indoor panels; no washdown rating.
