What this breaker is and what it protects
The Siemens 3VA1116-4ED46-0AB0 is a 4-pole IEC frame 160 molded-case circuit breaker with a 36 kA breaking capacity at 415 V (class S). It's built for line protection with a TM210 thermal-magnetic trip unit — fixed overload protection at 160 A (Ir = 160 A) and fixed short-circuit protection at 10× In (Ii = 10 × In). That means the thermal element handles sustained overloads up to 160 A, and the magnetic element trips instantaneously at 1600 A. The N conductor is unprotected (no internal trip on the neutral), which is standard for 3-phase, 4-wire distribution where the neutral is not expected to carry fault current.
Panel fit and wiring
This breaker uses clamp (box lug) terminals on both line and load sides — no screw pressure-plate, so torque the connection to the manufacturer's spec for the cable size. It ships with two auxiliary switch changeover contacts (form C) mounted internally, giving you a dry contact for status feedback to a PLC or panel lamp without adding an external accessory. The 4-pole body occupies the same DIN-rail footprint as the 3-pole version; just account for the extra pole width when laying out the enclosure backplate.
