What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-4GF46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels and industrial switchboards. Its TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release provides fixed thermal and magnetic trip settings, with no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication function — a straightforward, non-electronic breaker for basic feeder or main protection. The interrupting ratings are substantial: 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V — so it handles high available fault current at common low-voltage levels without cascading upstream.
Thermal performance and panel fit
The breaker carries its full 160 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then derates to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C — so in a warm enclosure you lose only about 6 % of capacity at the top of the operating range. Dimensions are 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, and 130 mm high — a 4-pole MCCB that fits standard panel-mount cutouts; the IP40 front protection means it's fine for general indoor use but not washdown environments. Maximum power dissipation is 38 W, which should be factored into enclosure thermal calculations, especially when grouping multiple breakers.
