What the ratings mean for fit
The 3VA1116-5ED32-0BA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) from Siemens, sized for line protection in distribution panels. Its headline rating is 160 A at 40 °C — that's the continuous current it carries without tripping in a 40 °C ambient. The TM210 thermal-magnetic trip unit handles overloads (thermal) and short-circuits (magnetic) in one package; the '210' designates the frame size and trip curve family. Breaking capacity is the key selection number: at 240 V it interrupts 187 kA, at 415 V it's 121 kA, and at 440 V it drops to 75.6 kA. Above 500 V the rating settles at 17 kA through 690 V. For a 400 V panel, the 121 kA figure gives substantial SCCR headroom for most industrial service-entrance or feeder applications.
Thermal derating and operating range
The 160 A rating holds from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, derating begins: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say, adjacent to a drive cabinet or in a non-conditioned enclosure — use the 70 °C figure (150 A) for continuous load planning. The operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. The maximum power loss at rated load is 40.5 W, which matters for enclosure thermal calculations when grouping multiple breakers.
Construction and integration
Three-pole design, 130 mm tall, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep. It mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount baseplate — standard for SENTRON 3VA frames. The unit includes an undervoltage release (UVR) as the auxiliary release type; no ground-fault monitoring is built in. Insulation voltage is rated at 800 V. No communication function or voltage-trigger option on this variant. The supplied basic switch order code is 3VA11165ED320AA0.
