What this MCCB delivers for the panel
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5ED36-0AC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated at 160 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It is configured as a line-protection device — no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication module — so it is a straight feeder or distribution breaker for a main panel. The interrupting ratings climb to 187 kA at 240 V AC and 121 kA at 415 V AC, which gives headroom for high-fault installations where the available short-circuit current is substantial. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) and 500 V max DC operational voltage (Ue) mean it covers both AC and DC bus applications within those limits. The thermal derating curve is flat up to 50 °C — still 160 A — then drops to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. That means in a warm enclosure you lose only about 6% of capacity at the high end, so the breaker can be sized close to the load without oversizing for ambient temperature. The auxiliary contact version ships with 2 HQ switches, giving status feedback for the open/closed position. The front face carries IP40 protection, which is standard for panel-mounted breakers — not rated for washdown, but fine inside a switchboard enclosure.
Integration and mounting
The 3VA1116-5ED36-0AC0 measures 130 mm high, 3 in wide, and 2.8 in deep. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate in a standard panel layout. The 3-pole footprint matches the SENTRON 3VA family, so busbar and cable connections follow the same pattern as other 160 A frames in the range.
