What this MCCB delivers on the line
The Siemens 3VA1116-5ED42-0BC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous at 40 °C ambient, with a 4-pole configuration and a line-protection design. The interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 75.6 kA at 440 V — enough to handle high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream breakers. It ships with an undervoltage release (UVR) and two HQ auxiliary switches built in, so you don't need to order those as separate accessories.
Thermal derating and power dissipation
The breaker holds its 160 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. Maximum power loss is 40.5 W — factor that into your enclosure's thermal budget if you're stacking multiple breakers in a sealed panel. The rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's comfortable on 480/600 V class systems with headroom.
Panel fit and mechanicals
Dimensions are 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep. The 4-pole body is wider than a 3-pole, so check your DIN-rail or mounting-plate layout if you're retrofitting into an existing panel that was sized for a smaller frame. The 70 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-access wiring and gland plates.
Built-in auxiliaries and release
The breaker includes two HQ auxiliary switches (form C) and an undervoltage release (UVR). The UVR trips the breaker when control voltage drops below a threshold — standard for emergency-stop circuits or undervoltage protection on motor feeders. No voltage-trigger or communication function is built in; this is a straight electromechanical MCCB.
Environmental and storage limits
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage ceiling is higher than the operating ceiling — that's typical for shipping and warehouse conditions. No ground-fault monitoring version is included; if you need GF protection, you'd add an external module or choose a different variant.
