MCCB with high interrupting capacity for line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EE32-0DC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 160 A. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — figures that govern its ability to clear a fault without upstream devices needing to trip. The TM220 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release handles the overload and short-circuit curves; there is no electronic trip unit, no communication function, and no phase failure detection built in. An undervoltage release (UVR) is fitted as the auxiliary release, and the auxiliary contact configuration is 2 HQ (high-availability) switches.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that it derates per the datasheet curve: 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs at 60 °C, the usable current is 150.4 A — not the nameplate 160 A. The enclosure footprint is 130 mm high, 76.2 mm wide, and 70 mm deep. Front protection is IP40; the body is not sealed for washdown. The DIN EN 81346-2 reference code is Q, consistent with circuit-breaker function in a panel schematic.
