The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF32-0BC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a rated continuous current Iu of 160 A and a rated insulation voltage Ui of 800 V. The TM240 overcurrent release handles thermal-magnetic trip curves; the breaker also includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and two HQ auxiliary switches. With a 187 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, it can clear high-fault currents in distribution panels without cascading upstream — a key spec for selectivity studies on large switchboards.
SCCR and thermal derating
Interrupting capacity drops with system voltage: 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. The continuous current holds at 160 A up to 50 °C ambient, then derates to 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The IP40 front protection keeps dust out of the enclosure face.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth. The 3-pole footprint matches standard Siemens SENTRON 3VA panel cutouts. The undervoltage release and auxiliary switches are factory-installed; no field wiring of separate modules needed. No communication function or phase-failure detection is built in — this is a straight line-protection breaker.
