160 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF32-0HA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and 75.6 kA at 440 V — figures that place it squarely in high-fault-duty distribution panels where upstream transformer capacity or parallel-feed architecture drives available fault current above 100 kA. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) gives headroom for 690 V line-to-line systems. This is a line-protection variant (Product version: Line protection), meaning it is intended for feeder and main breaker duty rather than motor branch-circuit protection. The TM240 release provides fixed thermal and magnetic trip settings; no electronic adjustment or communication module is fitted. A shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release is built in (Design of the auxiliary release: Shunt trip (STL)), allowing remote tripping from an E-stop or safety relay — useful for emergency-off circuits in conveyor or pump panels.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that, derate linearly: 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. In a sealed, non-ventilated enclosure with multiple breakers ganged, expect to apply the 60 °C or 65 °C column. The 70 mm depth and 76.2 mm width match the standard SENTRON 3VA mounting footprint — same cutout and bus-bar pitch as the 3VA1 family, so a panel laid out for a 3VA1110 or 3VA1112 accepts this unit without drilling or re-spacing. IP40 on the front (Protection class IP / on the front: IP40) means it is protected against tools and small wires entering the front face but not against water ingress — standard for indoor switchgear. The -40 °C to +80 °C storage range covers cold warehouse and hot container transit; operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C.
