Line protection MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF32-0HH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 160 A and an interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V is the headline number for panel SCCR calculations — it tells you this breaker can safely interrupt a fault up to that level without cascading upstream. At 415 V it still holds 121 kA, and at 690 V it drops to 17 kA, which is typical for a compact-frame MCCB at higher voltage. The TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release handles the overload and short-circuit protection curve; the shunt trip (STL) allows remote tripping via a control signal. It ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus a separate trip alarm switch (HQ) for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C — no derating needed in a typical 40 °C panel. Above that it steps down: 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. If your enclosure runs hot, use the 60 °C figure for conservative sizing. The breaker measures 130 mm high by 76.2 mm wide by 70 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount backplates. IP40 on the front face means it's protected against solid objects over 1 mm but not sealed against water ingress; keep it inside a rated enclosure for washdown areas.
