The Siemens 3VA1116-5EF36-0AA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuously at ambient temperatures from 40 °C through 50 °C without derating. Above that, the thermal curve steps down: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. The interrupting capacity is where this breaker earns its place in high-fault installations: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V. For a 415 V distribution board fed by a large transformer, 121 kA SCCR covers most industrial service entrances.
TM240 release and line protection design
The overcurrent release is designated TM240 — a thermal-magnetic trip unit with a 240 A frame rating, set here for the 160 A continuous current. This is a line-protection design, meaning it's optimized for cable and busbar protection rather than motor or generator protection, so the trip curve is shaped to coordinate with downstream feeders.
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width (3 in), 70 mm depth. IP40 on the front.
