MCCB for line protection — 160 A, high interrupting capacity
The Siemens 3VA1116-5EF36-0BA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for line protection at 160 A continuous current (Iu). It carries a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release and an integrated undervoltage release (UVR) — the auxiliary trip coil specified as 3VA9608-0BB11. This MCCB is designed for main feeder or large branch protection in distribution panels where fault current levels are high. Interrupting capacity is the headline spec here: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. That puts it in the high-fault-current tier — suitable for service-entrance or transformer-fed switchboards where downstream breakers need a high SCCR upstream to coordinate. The rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's also usable on 690 V systems with adequate clearance. Thermal derating is published across the full operating range: full 160 A up to 50 °C, then steps down to 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say near a transformer or in a non-climate-controlled enclosure — use the 50 °C column as your sizing baseline; the breaker won't trip prematurely on a warm day.
Integration — panel fit and wiring
Dimensions: 130 mm tall, 76.2 mm wide, 70 mm deep. The 76.2 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint — fits most DIN-rail or direct-mount panel layouts without special adapters. IP40 on the front means the breaker face is protected against tools and small wires, but the enclosure itself must provide the overall panel IP rating. No auxiliary contacts or ground-fault module are included; those are add-on options if needed. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The breaker is rated for 15,000 mechanical latching endurance cycles — typical for a fixed-mounted MCCB in a distribution panel that sees infrequent switching. No communication function, no phase-failure detection, and no voltage trigger are built in; this is a straightforward thermal-magnetic protective device.
