MCCB for high-fault line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF36-0KC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 160 A at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and still holds 17 kA at 690 V — meaning it clears high-fault currents without cascading upstream breakers, a key spec for main feeders in industrial switchgear.
Thermal derating and ambient range
The breaker holds its full 160 A up to 50 °C, then derates gradually to 150 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient spans -25 °C to 70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C — wide enough for unheated enclosures or nacelle-mounted panels that see temperature swings. Power dissipation peaks at 38 W, so factor that into enclosure thermal calculations.
Integrated auxiliary and shunt trip
Factory-fitted with two HQ auxiliary switches and a shunt trip (STL) release. The shunt trip allows remote tripping via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or PLC-driven load shedding. No undervoltage release or ground-fault monitoring on this variant, so plan external protection if those functions are needed.
