160 A, 4-pole MCCB with TM240 release — interrupting rating 187 kA at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF42-0AF0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 160 A continuous at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its TM240 thermal-magnetic release provides fixed thermal and magnetic trip thresholds, with a trip indicator for visual status. The interrupting rating reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and 75.6 kA at 440 V — figures that govern fault-clearing capability at the point of common coupling. Insulation voltage is rated 800 V, with maximum power loss of 38 W under full load.
Integration into a panel
The 3VA1116-5EF42-0AF0 measures 101.6 mm wide by 130 mm tall by 70 mm deep, fitting standard MCCB panel cutouts. The 4-pole footprint occupies roughly 4 inches of DIN-rail or mounting-plate width. The TM240 release is factory-set; no field adjustment of the thermal curve is intended. The auxiliary switch configuration (1 auxiliary + 1 trip alarm switch HQ) is integrated into the breaker body, so no external add-on block is required for status feedback.
Thermal derating across ambient temperature
Continuous current rating holds at 160 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. At 55 °C it derates to 158 A, at 60 °C to 155 A, at 65 °C to 153 A, and at 70 °C to 150 A. This derating curve is per the datasheet; panel builders should account for internal enclosure temperature rise when sizing the breaker for continuous loads near the 160 A threshold.
