MCCB with undervoltage release for line protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF42-0BA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 160 A at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a TM240 thermal-magnetic release and an integrated undervoltage release (UVR) that trips the breaker when supply voltage drops below the dropout threshold — no separate undervoltage relay needed, which simplifies the control wiring and eliminates a potential single point of failure in the protection chain. Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V — these values cover the typical fault-current ranges for 480Y/277 V and 600 V industrial services, so the breaker coordinates downstream without cascading upstream gear. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, giving headroom for 690 V systems without derating the dielectric withstand.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The breaker holds 160 A continuously up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 150 A at 70 °C. In a crowded panel with limited airflow, use the 70 °C figure for the actual load — the 160 A nameplate applies only when the enclosure ambient stays under 50 °C. Dimensions are 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, 70 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures without re-drilling. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limit governs handling and warehousing — the breaker can sit in a cold warehouse, but must be at -25 °C or above before energizing.
