MCCB for line protection with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF42-0DH0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, and 75.6 kA at 440 V — enough to handle high-fault-current scenarios like large transformer secondaries or industrial feeder circuits without cascading upstream breakers. The breaker includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and a configurable auxiliary switch block with two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch HQ. That UVR is a panel-builder detail: it drops the breaker on loss of control voltage, so verify your control-circuit coordination before energizing.
Thermal derating and operating range
Rated current holds at 160 A from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs above 50 °C, factor the derating into your load schedule — the breaker will trip earlier than the 160 A label suggests. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. The storage limits govern handling and shipping, not running conditions.
