Line protection breaker for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-5EF42-0JA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its 187 kA breaking capacity at 240 V and 121 kA at 415 V mean it can safely interrupt high fault currents in distribution panels without cascading upstream — sized for main or feeder protection where the available fault current is substantial.
Breaking capacity and thermal derating
Breaking capacity drops with system voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. The 160 A rating holds from 40 °C through 50 °C; above that it derates to 153.6 A at 55 °C, 150.4 A at 60 °C, 147.2 A at 65 °C, and 144 A at 70 °C. That derating curve matters if the breaker lives in a warm enclosure — the panel designer sizes the load to the ambient-adjusted figure, not the nameplate 160 A.
Auxiliary release and mounting
This version ships without auxiliary contacts or ground-fault monitoring. It carries a shunt trip (STL) release — order code 3VA9688-0BL32 for the integrated auxiliary trip — for remote tripping on a control signal. The 70 mm depth and 101.6 mm width fit standard SENTRON panel cutouts; IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and small wires entering the face, but not sealed against washdown.
