What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens 3VA1116-6ED46-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated 160 A at 40 °C, with 4 poles and a TM210 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It is designed for line protection — meaning it sits at the incoming feeder or main distribution point, not downstream branch circuits. The breaking capacity is 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, and 75.6 kA at 440 V, so it handles high-fault utility feeds without cascading upstream. The TM210 release gives a fixed thermal curve and magnetic trip, no electronic adjustment. Front protection is IP40 — suitable for dry indoor panels; not rated for washdown.
Dimensions and panel fit
Width is 101.6 mm (4 in), depth 70 mm (2.76 in), height 130 mm (5.12 in). That 101.6 mm width is a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint — it occupies roughly four 1-inch pole spaces on a DIN rail or mounting plate. The 70 mm depth leaves clearance for rear busbars or cable ducts in a 200 mm deep enclosure. Verify the gland plate cutout matches the 101.6 mm width before drilling.
Current derating and thermal limits
Rated 160 A continuously at 40 °C, and it holds 160 A up to 50 °C. Above that, derating is gradual: 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. The maximum operating temperature is 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. Power loss at full load is 38 W maximum — negligible for panel thermal budgeting but worth noting if the breaker is enclosed in a small sub-panel with other heat sources.
