MCCB for high-fault distribution — 160 A, 220 kA SCCR
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-6EF32-0BH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 160 A at 40 °C, designed for line protection in high-fault industrial distribution. Its interrupting rating of 220 kA at 240 V means it can safely clear a bolted fault at that level without upstream coordination — critical for main or tie breakers in switchboards where available fault current is high. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) supports 480/600 V class systems with margin. This breaker includes an undervoltage release (UVR) and comes factory-configured with two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ), so it can signal status back to a PLC or annunciator panel without adding external relays.
Current rating and thermal derating
The 160 A rating holds through 50 °C ambient, then derates to 158 A at 55 °C, 155 A at 60 °C, 153 A at 65 °C, and 150 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, size the load at the derated figure — the breaker will trip earlier than a 160 A label suggests. Maximum power loss is 40.5 W, which matters for enclosure heat rise calculations in sealed cabinets.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width (3 inches), 70 mm depth. The 3-pole frame fits standard Siemens 3VA mounting footprints.
