MCCB for line protection with integrated shunt trip
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1116-6GF46-0KF0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) on a 160 A frame, configured for line protection with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. The TM240 release provides LI protection — thermal overload (Ir adjustable 112–160 A) and magnetic short-circuit (Ii adjustable 5–10 × In) — sized for feeder or main distribution duty in commercial and industrial switchboards. Breaking capacity class H delivers 70 kA at 415 V AC, giving the fault-clearing headroom needed for high-available-fault-current installations without cascading upstream breakers. The 4-pole design with 100% N-conductor protection means the neutral pole is fully rated and switched — required where harmonic currents or unbalanced loads demand a protected neutral path. A factory-integrated shunt trip (STL) release (order code 3VA9688-0BL33) allows remote tripping via a control signal, essential for emergency-stop circuits, undervoltage protection schemes, or supervisory shutdown from a PLC or safety relay. The auxiliary contact pack — one HQ auxiliary switch plus one HQ trip alarm switch (order code 3VA9988-0AB12) — provides status feedback for remote indication and monitoring.
Mounting and connection
Front-terminal connection on the main current circuit accepts lug-type conductors, typical for panel-mounted MCCBs where busbar or cable access is from the front. The IP40 front-face protection suits enclosed switchboard installation — not for washdown or outdoor exposure without an additional enclosure. Operating temperature range of -25 °C to +70 °C covers most indoor industrial environments; storage range of -40 °C to +80 °C accommodates warehousing in unheated facilities. The 15 000-cycle mechanical endurance is standard for a distribution-class MCCB in non-frequent switching service.
