What this MCCB is and what it protects
The Siemens 3VA1132-3EF36-0HH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection — meaning it guards feeder cables and distribution buswork against overloads and short circuits, not motor or device-level protection. Rated 32 A continuous at ambient temperatures up to 50 °C without derating; at 55 °C it carries 31 A, and at 70 °C it holds 30 A — so in a warm panel you lose only 2 A off the nameplate. Breaking capacity is 75.6 kA at 240 V AC, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V — high enough for most distribution panels fed by a transformer of 1000 kVA or less without needing a current-limiting upstream breaker. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it can be used in 690 V line-to-line systems with margin.
Panel fit and wiring
Three-pole configuration, 76.2 mm wide (roughly 3 inches), 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep — fits standard MCCB mounting footprints and leaves room for auxiliary wiring alongside. Comes with a shunt trip release (STL) and a configuration of 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch HQ — useful for remote tripping and status feedback to a PLC or SCADA. Max power dissipation is 10.6 W — negligible for panel thermal budgeting, but worth noting if you pack multiple breakers in a sealed enclosure.
Operating environment and lifecycle
Rated for ambient operation from -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C — suitable for unheated electrical rooms or outdoor enclosures in temperate climates. Includes a mechanical trip indicator for visual fault confirmation without opening the panel door.
