SENTRON 3VA — line protection MCCB with TM240 release
The Siemens 3VA1132-5EF36-0AH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from the SENTRON 3VA series, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a TM240 thermal-magnetic release — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element clears short-circuits — rated at 32 A continuous at 40 °C ambient, and holds that rating up to 50 °C before derating begins at 55 °C (31 A at 55 °C, 30 A at 70 °C). Breaking capacity is the headline here: 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V and 690 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V is exceptionally high — this is a breaker sized for high-fault-current installations like large transformer secondaries or industrial service entrances where available fault current exceeds what a standard 65 kA or 100 kA MCCB can handle.
Fit and integration — panel dimensions and auxiliaries
Physical footprint: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width (3 inches — standard 3-pole MCCB width), 70 mm depth. The 3VA series mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate with the supplied hardware. The breaker ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type) pre-installed — that covers status feedback for a PLC or remote monitoring without ordering add-on modules separately. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and maximum power loss at rated current is 10.6 W — useful for thermal calculations inside a sealed enclosure. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
