40 A MCCB with TM240 release — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3VA1140-3GF46-0AA0 is a 4-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated 40 A continuous with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. That 40 A holds across ambient temperatures up to 50 °C without derating; at 55 °C it still carries 39 A, and at 70 °C it's 37 A — so in a warm panel you lose less than 10 % of the rating. The interrupting capacity hits 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, and 32 kA at 440 V, which covers most industrial service-entrance and feeder applications on 480 V systems. At 690 V it still breaks 11.9 kA, enough for some European motor circuits.
Panel fit and power loss
The 3VA1140-3GF46-0AA0 measures 101.6 mm wide by 130 mm tall by 70 mm deep — a 4-pole MCCB that fits standard distribution panelboards and switchgear cubicles. Maximum power loss is 10.8 W, which matters for thermal calculations in sealed enclosures. The front face carries IP40 protection, so it's fine in a closed panel but not for washdown areas.
