Line protection breaker with thermal-magnetic release
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1140-4EF36-0AE0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) configured for line protection, carrying a rated continuous current Iu of 40 A and fitted with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Breaking capacity is specified per voltage: 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at 690 V — figures that govern fault-clearing capability at the point of installation. The TM240 release is adjustable; the long-time delay tr max. is set to 1 second per the datasheet, allowing coordination with downstream devices.
Thermal derating and ambient limits
Rated current holds at 40 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that threshold the breaker derates: 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, 36.8 A at 65 °C, and 36 A at 70 °C. Operating minimum is -25 °C, maximum 70 °C. Storage range extends from -40 °C to 80 °C, which governs handling and warehousing conditions rather than in-service performance.
Physical footprint and panel integration
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth — a 3-pole MCCB sized for standard distribution panel mounting. The front face carries IP40 protection, suitable for enclosed panel installation where tools are required for access. The breaker ships with 4 auxiliary switches (HQ type) for status feedback to a PLC or indication circuit. No undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, no communication function, and no ground-fault monitoring are fitted on this variant.
