SENTRON 3VA1140-4EF36-0HH0 — 40 A MCCB for Line Protection
The Siemens 3VA1140-4EF36-0HH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker from the SENTRON series, designed for line protection. It carries a 40 A rating at 40 °C ambient, with a slight derating curve: still 40 A at 45 °C, 39 A at 55 °C, 38 A at 65 °C, and 37 A at 70 °C — so in a warm panel you lose about 3 A off the top end. Breaking capacity is substantial: 121 kA at 240 V, 75.6 kA at 415 V, 52.5 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That gives you plenty of SCCR headroom for most distribution panels without needing a current-limiting upstream device. It ships with a shunt trip (STL) release and an auxiliary switch block: 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ). The insulation voltage is rated at 800 V. Panel footprint is 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, 70 mm deep — standard for this frame size. Maximum power loss is 10.8 W, which matters for thermal budgeting inside a sealed enclosure.
Integration Notes
Mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount baseplate. The 76.2 mm width (3 inches) fits standard MCCB slots in a distribution board. The shunt trip allows remote tripping via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or undervoltage protection schemes. The auxiliary switch block (2 NO/NC + 1 trip alarm) gives status feedback to a PLC or SCADA system without extra interfacing.
