The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1140-4GD42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 40 A continuous, with a TM210 thermal-magnetic trip unit. It's designed for line protection in distribution panels and motor control centers. The 40 A rating holds up to 55 °C ambient before the first derate step — at 65 °C it's still good for 38 A, so you don't lose a lot of headroom in a warm enclosure.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
This MCCB delivers 121 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, dropping to 75.6 kA at 415 V and 52.5 kA at 440 V. At 500 V and 690 V it still holds 11.9 kA. Those numbers mean it can sit upstream of a high-fault panel without cascading — useful when you're coordinating with downstream branch breakers and need the main to hold. The 800 V rated insulation voltage gives margin for 690 V line-to-line systems.
Panel fit and environment
The case measures 130 mm tall, 101.6 mm wide, and 70 mm deep — a standard footprint for a 4-pole MCCB in this class. It mounts to a backplate or DIN rail in a distribution board. Front IP40 means it's protected against tools and solid objects larger than 1 mm, but it's not sealed for washdown — keep it inside the enclosure. Operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C ambient; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C.
