SENTRON 3VA1140-5EF32-0AE0 — 40 A MCCB with TM240 Release
The Siemens 3VA1140-5EF32-0AE0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 40 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. It carries a 187 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V, derating to 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — numbers that drive the SCCR coordination study for the panel. The TM240 release is a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit — no interchangeable trip blocks, no electronic adjustments. That makes it a fast-moving standard spare for line protection applications where you don't need the flexibility of an electronic trip. The breaker carries four HQ auxiliary switches (2 NO + 2 NC) built in, so you get status feedback without adding a separate aux block.
Current Rating and Thermal Derating
Rated continuous current holds at 40 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that, it derates: 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, 36.8 A at 65 °C, and 36 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say, adjacent to a drive or transformer — plan for the 36 A floor at 70 °C rather than the 40 A nameplate.
Physical Fit and Panel Integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth. That 70 mm depth is the body only — allow clearance for the handle throw and wiring gutters. Front protection is IP40, so the breaker face is protected against tools and small solids but not against water ingress; keep it inside a sealed enclosure if washdown is nearby.
