Line protection breaker, 40 A continuous, 4-pole
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1140-5GF42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 40 A continuous at 40 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release designed for line protection duty. The interrupting ratings step down by applied voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V — so the SCCR headroom shrinks fast above 440 V. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the front face carries IP40 protection, meaning it's splash-resistant in a closed panel but not washdown-rated. Power dissipation runs 10.8 W maximum at rated load — negligible for a single breaker in a standard enclosure, but worth summing if you're packing several into a sealed cabinet. Thermal derating starts at 55 °C: the breaker holds 40 A through 50 °C, then drops to 39 A at 55–60 °C, 38 A at 65 °C, and 37 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C.
