The Siemens 3VA1140-6EF32-0AD0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) with a 40 A rated continuous current Iu and a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its breaking capacity hits 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, and 121 kA at 440 V — these figures mean it can safely interrupt fault currents up to those levels without upstream cascading, which is the deciding factor for high-fault panels near large transformers or utility feeds. At 690 V the rating drops to 17 kA, so verify the available fault current at that voltage before specifying.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 40 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 38.4 A at 55 °C, 37.6 A at 60 °C, 36.8 A at 65 °C, and 36 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs above 50 °C, the continuous load must be backed off accordingly — the 36 A floor at 70 °C still leaves headroom for a 30 A continuous load, but a full 40 A draw at 70 °C would nuisance-trip. The 76.2 mm width and 70 mm depth (130 mm height) fit a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint on the DIN rail or panel-mount plate; the IP40 front protection keeps dust out of the enclosure face.
