Line protection MCCB with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1140-6EF36-0AE0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 40 A continuous current at 40 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Its interrupting capacity reaches 220 kA at 240 V AC, 154 kA at 415 V, and 121 kA at 440 V — enough to handle high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream breakers. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it suits 480 V / 600 V panel applications with margin. The TM240 release is fixed (non-adjustable thermal and magnetic), simplifying spec-in for standard branch protection where coordination studies don't demand adjustable trip settings.
Breaking capacity across voltage levels
At 690 V the breaker still clears 17 kA — usable on 690 V industrial networks, though the 40 A frame limits the load side. The 220 kA at 240 V is the headline number for high-fault commercial services; the 154 kA at 415 V covers most European low-voltage distribution.
Built-in auxiliary switching and environmental limits
Comes with 4 HQ auxiliary switches (form C contacts) for remote status indication — useful for PLC DI monitoring or safety circuit feedback without adding external relay blocks. No undervoltage release, no shunt trip, no communication module on this variant; it's a straight line-protection MCCB. Front face is IP40, meaning tools or fingers won't contact live parts but the breaker is not sealed against dust ingress. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Current derating starts at 55 °C (38.4 A) and drops to 36 A at 70 °C.
