50 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting — thermal curve matters more than the headline number
What sets this part apart in the 3VA line is the interrupting capacity: 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 75.6 kA at 440 V. That's serious fault-clearing headroom for a 50 A frame — you're not going to run out of SCCR on a 240 V distribution board with this thing. But the real selection gate is the thermal derating curve. This breaker holds 50 A flat from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then starts to taper: 49 A at 55 °C, 48 A at 60 °C, 46 A at 65 °C, and 45 A at 70 °C. Size your load or the ventilation accordingly.

The TM240 release provides a fixed thermal curve and magnetic pickup — no interchangeable trip units, so what you see is what you get. For selectivity studies, the published let-through curves (available in the Siemens 3VA manual) are needed to coordinate with downstream breakers.
