Rated current and thermal derating
The 3VA1150-5EF36-0JC0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated 50 A continuous at 40 °C ambient. Above that, the thermal trip curve derates: 49 A at 55 °C, 48 A at 60 °C, 46 A at 65 °C, and 45 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs near 70 °C, the effective ampacity is 45 A — not the nameplate 50 A.
Interrupting capacity by system voltage
Short-circuit current rating (SCCR) varies with line voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. For a 480 V panel, the 75.6 kA at 440 V is the closest published figure — coordination studies should use the 440 V value as the bounding limit.
Auxiliary functions and release options
This variant ships with two auxiliary switches (HQ) and a shunt trip release (STL). No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring module, and no communication function. The shunt trip allows remote tripping from a safety PLC or E-stop circuit; the auxiliary switches provide status feedback to the control system.
Physical dimensions and panel fit
Width 76.2 mm (3 in), height 130 mm (5.12 in), depth 70 mm (2.76 in). The 70 mm depth is the body dimension from mounting face to the farthest projection — relevant when sizing the gland plate clearance or enclosure depth for a DIN-rail layout.
Power loss and thermal management
Maximum power loss is 14.6 W. In a sealed enclosure with multiple breakers ganged together, that heat must be factored into the internal temperature rise calculation — especially when the derating curve above 40 °C already reduces available ampacity.
