Switch disconnector for isolation duty
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1163-1AA36-0AE0 is a 3-pole switch disconnector in the MCCB-style 3VA1 frame, rated for 63 A continuous current (Iu) at up to 690 V AC 50/60 Hz or 500 V DC. It provides no overload or short-circuit protection — this is a pure isolating switch for load-break and visible disconnect applications, not a circuit breaker. The front terminal clamp connection accepts standard power conductors, and the unit ships with 4 HQ auxiliary contacts (4 CO) for status feedback to a PLC or indication panel.
What the ratings mean on the line
The 63 A rated continuous current (Iu) is the maximum uninterrupted load this switch can carry in free air at 40 °C ambient — sized for a 30–50 A motor feeder or a 63 A resistive load branch where isolation, not overcurrent protection, is the function. The short-time withstand rating of 2 kA at 1 s (and at 0.5 s) tells you the switch can survive a fault current of that magnitude for that duration while closed; upstream protection must clear before the limit is exceeded. The 15 000 mechanical endurance cycles are typical for a panel-main disconnect, not a daily-operating contactor. IP40 on the front means the operator interface is protected against tools and small wires, but the enclosure must provide the overall IP rating for washdown or outdoor locations.
Panel fit and auxiliary wiring
Mounts in the standard 3VA1 frame footprint: 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — same cutout and drilling pattern as the 3VA1 MCCB line, so it drops into an existing panel layout without rework. The 4 HQ auxiliary switches (4 CO) are factory-fitted and wired to the front terminal block; no separate order for aux contacts. The undervoltage release is not present (no UVR), and no communication module is installed — this is a standalone disconnect. A motor drive can be added as an optional extension (field-fit). Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage from -40 °C to +80 °C.
