What this part is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1163-1AA36-0KA0 is a SENTRON 3VA1 switch disconnector in an MCCB (molded case circuit breaker) mechanical design — same frame, same DIN-rail footprint, but built purely for isolation and switching, not overcurrent protection. Rated continuous current Iu is 63 A, with no overload or short-circuit protection onboard. That makes it the right choice for a manual disconnect point where upstream protection already exists, or for safe isolation during maintenance on a 3-pole load circuit. The integrated shunt trip release (STL) operates on 220–250 V DC or 208–277 V AC, letting you trip the disconnector remotely via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop chains or remote load shedding where you need to break the circuit without walking to the panel. No undervoltage release is fitted, so the disconnector holds in regardless of control voltage loss; only a deliberate shunt-trip pulse opens it.
Mounting and panel fit
Three-pole, 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — the same compact 3VA1 frame dimensions as the equivalent breaker versions. Front terminal connection for the main circuit, clamp-type terminals. IP40 on the front face, so it's protected against tools and solid objects larger than 1 mm but not sealed against moisture; install inside a panel with a door. The 3VA1 frame accepts an optional motor drive, so this disconnector can be automated for remote switching without losing the manual disconnect function. No auxiliary contacts are fitted as standard; if you need status feedback, plan for an add-on auxiliary contact block.
Voltage and endurance
Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V. Maximum operational voltage is 690 V AC 50/60 Hz, and 500 V DC. Mechanical endurance is 15,000 operating cycles. Power loss at rated current maxes at 38 W. Ambient operating range -25 °C to +70 °C; storage from -40 °C to +80 °C.
