What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1163-1AA42-0AH0 is a SENTRON 3VA1 switch disconnector in an MCCB-style housing — IEC frame 160, 4-pole, rated 63 A continuous. It provides visible-break isolation with no overload or short-circuit protection built in, so it's a dedicated disconnecting means, not a circuit breaker. The 63 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 70 °C ambient, which simplifies panel derating calculations — no thermal headroom to chase across the temperature range. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, with operating voltages of 690 V AC and 600 V DC. That 600 V DC rating makes it usable in battery or DC-bus isolation applications where many AC-only disconnects can't go. Front terminals accept busbar connections, and the IP40 front protection keeps finger contact out during normal panel access.
Auxiliary switching and mechanical life
Comes fitted with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch, all HQ (high-rupturing-capacity) contacts — three CO contacts in total. That's enough for status feedback to a PLC, a remote indication lamp, and a separate alarm signal without adding external relay blocks. Mechanical service life is 15 000 operating cycles, typical for a disconnect used in maintenance isolation rather than daily motor starting.
