Switch Disconnector for Isolation and Safety Switching
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1163-1AA42-0BC0 is a 4-pole switch disconnector in MCCB design, rated at 63 A continuous current (Iu) with a maximum AC operational voltage of 690 V and DC voltage of 600 V. It provides no overload or short-circuit protection — its role is safe isolation and disconnection under load, not fault clearing. The built-in undervoltage release (UVR) at 24 V DC automatically opens the switch when control voltage drops, a standard requirement for emergency-stop and safety circuits.
What the Ratings Mean for Your Panel
The 63 A rated continuous current (Iu) is the maximum current the switch can carry continuously without exceeding its thermal limits — sized for a 63 A feeder or motor branch circuit. The 690 V AC / 600 V DC rated operational voltage covers standard three-phase 400 V and 480 V systems with headroom, and the DC rating allows use in battery or UPS circuits. The 2 kA limited short-time withstand (1 s and 0.5 s) means it can survive a fault current of that magnitude while the upstream protective device clears — it is not a circuit breaker and must be coordinated with a fuse or MCCB upstream.
Integration and Mounting
The switch disconnector uses busbar connection on the front terminals for the main circuit — designed for panel-mount with busbar links, not cable lugs. Dimensions are 70 mm deep, 101.6 mm wide, 130 mm high, fitting the standard 3VA1 frame 160 footprint. IP40 front protection means it is suitable for enclosed panel installation, not open washdown areas. The 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type) provide status feedback to a PLC or safety relay.
