63 A MCCB, 4-pole, TM220 — what the ratings mean for panel fit
The Siemens 3VA1163-3GE42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for a continuous 63 A across all four poles, with a TM220 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. Breaking capacity is the headline: 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 11.9 kA at both 500 V and 690 V. That's high-interrupting capability for a 63 A frame — it clears faults without cascading upstream on most industrial distribution boards. The 4-pole configuration (switched neutral) makes it suitable for TN-S or IT systems where the neutral needs isolation. Thermal derating is worth noting: full 63 A is maintained up to 50 °C ambient, then it drops to 62 A at 55 °C, 61 A at 60 °C, 60 A at 65 °C, and 58 A at 70 °C. If the panel runs hot, factor the 58 A ceiling at 70 °C into your load calculation. Power loss at rated current is 17.3 W — negligible for ventilation planning but relevant for tightly packed enclosures.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 101.6 mm width, 70 mm depth. Front IP40 protection. No undervoltage release, no shunt trip, no communication module, no ground-fault monitoring on this variant. It's a plain thermal-magnetic breaker — no auxiliary electronics. If you need remote tripping or GFCI, this is not the variant; look at the 3VA1 with the 'R' suffix options.
