MCCB for line protection with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1163-4EF36-0BC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous at 40 °C, with a maximum interrupting capacity of 121 kA at 240 V. It is designed for line protection in distribution panels and motor control centers, carrying an 800 V rated insulation voltage. That 121 kA at 240 V means this breaker can safely clear a fault up to that level without cascading upstream — critical for high-fault installations like transformer secondaries or large busway taps. At 415 V it still manages 75.6 kA, dropping to 52.5 kA at 440 V and 11.9 kA at 500 V and 690 V. The thermal-magnetic trip curve is sized for the 63 A frame, and the breaker includes an undervoltage release (UVR) plus two auxiliary switches HQ — these are factory-fitted, not field-addable modules. The UVR drops the breaker if control voltage falls below the dropout threshold, which is useful for safety circuits or coordinated shutdown sequences.
Panel integration and derating
At 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall, and 70 mm deep, this MCCB fits standard 3-pole MCCB panel cutouts and DIN-rail mounting. The 19.8 W maximum power loss means ventilation slots or spacing from heat-sensitive components should be considered in a sealed enclosure. The continuous current rating holds at 63 A from 40 °C through 50 °C, then derates to 62 A at 55 °C, 61 A at 60 °C, 60 A at 65 °C, and 58 A at 70 °C. Operating ambient range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
