63 A MCCB with TM220 release — active line, high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1163-5EE32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 63 A at 40 °C, built around a TM220 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release. The TM220 designation means the thermal element is fixed at 63 A (the frame rating) and the magnetic short-circuit pickup is adjustable from 5× to 10× In — so you set the instantaneous trip threshold between 315 A and 630 A to coordinate with downstream devices. Breaking capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V AC, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 75.6 kA at 440 V, which covers most industrial service-entrance and distribution panel applications where high fault current is expected.
Thermal derating and operating limits
The 63 A rating holds flat from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that, derating is gradual: 62 A at 55 °C, 61 A at 60 °C, 60 A at 65 °C, and 58 A at 70 °C. If the panel ambient runs hot — say a non-ventilated enclosure near a furnace line — expect to lose about 5 A by 70 °C. The operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to +80 °C. Maximum power dissipation is 17.3 W at rated load, which matters for thermal coordination inside a sealed enclosure.
