Line protection MCCB with high interrupting capacity
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1163-5EE32-0AH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 63 A continuous current (Iu) with a TM220 thermal-magnetic release. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V, 75.6 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — figures that cover most industrial fault-current scenarios without needing a current-limiting upstream device. The TM220 release means the thermal element is fixed at 63 A (no ampacity adjustment), while the magnetic trip threshold is set to 220 A ±20% per the standard curve. The part carries 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ configuration), giving the panel builder three separate signal paths for status feedback — useful for remote indication or PLC inputs without adding an external contact block. The front face is IP40 rated, so it's suited for enclosed panel mounting where incidental tool or finger contact is the only exposure.
Thermal derating and operating range
Rated continuous current holds at 63 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. Above that, derating is gradual: 60.48 A at 55 °C, 59.22 A at 60 °C, 57.96 A at 65 °C, and 56.7 A at 70 °C. The operating temperature floor is -25 °C, the ceiling is 70 °C. Storage range is wider at -40 °C to 80 °C. If the panel ambient sits above 50 °C, size the downstream load against the derated figure, not the nameplate 63 A.
Integration and mounting dimensions
Width is 76.2 mm (roughly 3 inches — three 25.4 mm pole pitches), height 130 mm, depth 70 mm. These dimensions match the standard SENTRON 3VA fixed-format footprint. The breaker mounts directly onto a DIN rail or panel baseplate via the integrated clip; no adapter plate needed. The 70 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars or cable ladders in a 200 mm deep enclosure.
