MCCB for line protection — 63 A, 220 kA interrupting capacity
The Siemens 3VA1163-6EF32-0AB0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous at 40 °C, with a 3-pole configuration and a maximum interrupting capacity of 220 kA at 240 V. This is the line-protection variant — designed for feeder and main breaker duty in distribution panels, not for motor branch-circuit protection. The interrupting rating at 415 V (154 kA) and 440 V (121 kA) still covers high-fault industrial services; at 500 V and 690 V the rating drops to 17 kA, which still suits most secondary distribution. The 800 V rated insulation voltage confirms it can be applied in 480/277 V or 600 V systems with margin.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The breaker holds 63 A up to 50 °C ambient, then derates linearly to 58 A at 70 °C — useful for sealed or sun-loaded enclosures. The 70 mm depth and 76.2 mm width fit standard MCCB footprints; 130 mm height leaves room for auxiliary wiring. The 17.3 W maximum power loss at rated load matters for thermal rise in multi-breaker panels — factor it into your enclosure ventilation calculation. Two auxiliary switches (HP type) are built in for status feedback to a PLC or alarm circuit.
