63 A MCCB with 220 kA interrupting — line protection focus
The Siemens 3VA1163-6EF32-0DA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 63 A continuous current (Iu) across the ambient range up to 50 °C, with derating starting at 55 °C to 60.48 A and dropping to 56.7 A at 70 °C. The interrupting ratings are 220 kA at 240 V, 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 690 V — these are the fault-clearing capacities the breaker can safely interrupt without upstream damage. The TM240 thermal-magnetic release handles overload and short-circuit protection. An undervoltage release is built in, so if control voltage drops, the breaker trips; the auxiliary trip accessory (3VA9608-0BB25) is ordered separately.
Panel fit and integration constraints
The 3-pole breaker occupies 76.2 mm width, 130 mm height, and 70 mm depth. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and small wires entering from the panel face but not sealed against moisture — mount in a dry enclosure. No auxiliary contacts are integrated, so if you need status feedback, plan for the separate 3VA9608-0BB25 auxiliary trip module. The undervoltage release is wired to a separate control circuit; verify coil voltage compatibility with your 24 VDC or 110 VAC supply before termination.
What the ratings mean for selectivity
The 220 kA SCCR at 240 V and 154 kA at 415 V put this breaker in the high-interrupting category — suited for transformer secondaries or large busway feeds where available fault current exceeds 100 kA. The TM240 release provides fixed thermal pickup and magnetic trip; adjustability is limited, so coordination studies should verify the trip curve against downstream breakers. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) covers most 480 V and 600 V class systems with margin.
