What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA1163-6EF36-0JH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in distribution panels. Rated 63 A continuously at 40 °C with an insulation voltage of 800 V, it handles fault interruption up to 220 kA at 240 V — that rating means it can safely clear high-fault-current events without upstream damage, critical for industrial switchboards where available fault current is high. The 3-pole construction suits three-phase feeders, and the integrated shunt trip (STL) release allows remote tripping from a safety circuit or emergency-stop chain.
Breaking capacity and thermal derating
Breaking capacity drops with system voltage: 154 kA at 415 V, 121 kA at 440 V, and 17 kA at 500 V or 690 V. For a 480 V panel, the 121 kA figure still leaves generous headroom above typical 65 kA SCCR requirements. The thermal rating holds at 63 A from 40 °C through 50 °C (–), then derates to 62 A at 55 °C, 61 A at 60 °C, 60 A at 65 °C, and 58 A at 70 °C — a gentle slope that keeps the breaker usable in warm enclosures without oversizing the frame.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions: 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth. The 3-pole frame mounts in standard distribution panel cutouts; the 70 mm depth fits shallow enclosures where deeper MCCBs would conflict with wiring ducts or door-mounted devices. The trip indicator and voltage trigger are present — the trip flag gives a visual cue during fault finding without opening the cover.
