Key ratings and what they mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA1163-6MH36-0DH0 is a 3-pole IEC circuit breaker on a 160 A frame, but configured here for starter protection at 63 A — the TM120M thermal-magnetic release provides motor-start curve shaping, while the adjustable short-circuit pickup (Ii = 5...15 x In) lets you set the magnetic trip to ride through inrush without nuisance tripping. Breaking capacity class H means Icu = 70 kA at 415 V AC — the maximum fault current the breaker can safely interrupt once. The built-in undervoltage release (UVR) operates on 208–230 V AC 50/60 Hz, so it drops the breaker if control voltage is lost — common in emergency-stop chains or mains-monitoring circuits. Two HQ auxiliary switches and one HQ trip alarm switch give you status feedback for PLC or indication lamps.
Integration and wiring notes
Clamp terminals accept solid or ferruled stranded copper — strip length per Siemens guidelines for the 3VA1 frame. The UVR coil draws continuous power when the breaker is closed; factor that into your control transformer sizing. Mounts on DIN rail or panel-mount via the 3VA1 adapter kit. The HQ auxiliary switches are factory-fitted, so no field-assembly of switch blocks is needed — just wire the terminals per the diagram inside the terminal cover.
