Line protection MCCB with TM240 release
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-3EF32-0CC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current Iu of 80 A and an insulation voltage Ui of 800 V. It uses a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the thermal element handles overloads, the magnetic element handles short-circuits — and includes an undervoltage release (UVR) as the auxiliary release design. Breaking capacity is rated at 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, 32 kA at 440 V, and 10.5 kA at 690 V. That 75.6 kA at 240 V means it can safely interrupt a fault current up to that level without upstream devices needing to clear it — useful for high-fault panels fed by a large transformer. Current rating holds at 80 A from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient, then derates to 76.8 A at 55 °C, 75.2 A at 60 °C, 73.6 A at 65 °C, and 72 A at 70 °C. In a sealed panel running at 55 °C, you lose 3.2 A of headroom — plan the load accordingly.
Panel fit and auxiliary wiring
Dimensions are 130 mm height, 76.2 mm width, 70 mm depth — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that mounts on a DIN rail or panel plate. The 70 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars in a typical distribution cabinet. It ships with 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type) for status feedback to a PLC or indication lamp. The integrated auxiliary trip is order code 3VA9608-0BB24 — a separate line item if you need a shunt trip or additional signaling. No communication function or phase failure detection is built in; this is a plain line-protection breaker, not a metering device. Front protection is IP40 — suitable for enclosed panels where tools and fingers stay out. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
