80 A MCCB with 75.6 kA interrupting rating — line protection for distribution panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA1180-3EF36-0AG0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in low-voltage distribution. Rated 80 A continuous at 40 °C, it carries a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release — the '240' indicates the fixed thermal trip rating in amperes at 40 °C ambient. The interrupting capacity hits 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, and 32 kA at 440 V, so it can clear high-fault currents on the secondary side of a distribution transformer or at a main feeder without upstream cascading.
Thermal derating and enclosure fit
Full 80 A rating holds through 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 74 A at 70 °C. In a sealed, uncooled panel that runs at 55 °C, expect 78 A continuous — plan your load margin accordingly. The case measures 70 mm deep, 76.2 mm wide, 130 mm tall — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for DIN-rail or panel-mount integration. Maximum power loss is 19.2 W; that heat must be considered in enclosure thermal calculations, especially when grouping multiple breakers.
Built-in diagnostics and auxiliary switching
A trip indicator is standard — visible flag on the front face shows whether the breaker opened on overload or short-circuit, speeding fault isolation. The factory-fitted auxiliary switch block provides one form-C auxiliary contact plus one trip-alarm contact (HP type), so the breaker can report its status to a PLC or annunciator panel without a separate add-on module. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication function are included on this variant.
