MCCB for line protection — 80 A continuous, 4-pole, TM240 release
The SENTRON 3VA1180-3EF46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 80 A continuous current across 40 °C to 50 °C, with a TM240 thermal-magnetic overcurrent release designed for line protection duty. It carries an interrupting capacity of 75.6 kA at 240 V, 52.5 kA at 415 V, and 32 kA at 440 V — figures that drop to 11.9 kA at 500 V and 690 V, so the voltage-dependent SCCR profile matters when coordinating with downstream equipment on a 480 V or 600 V distribution bus. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the unit dissipates 19.2 W maximum at full load — a figure to factor into enclosure thermal rise calculations, especially in a sealed panel with multiple breakers ganged together.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The breaker holds its 80 A rating up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 74 A at 70 °C. In a high-ambient enclosure — say a MCC lineup near a furnace line or in a non-ventilated cabinet — the 55 °C column (78 A) or 60 °C column (77 A) is the real continuous limit, not the nameplate 80 A. Front-face protection is IP40, so the breaker is suited for dry indoor panels but not washdown zones. Dimensions are 130 mm high, 101.6 mm wide, 70 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or direct-mount panel layouts without re-drilling. The 70 mm depth leaves clearance behind a 120 mm deep enclosure backplate for wiring and bus connections.
